This procedure involves freezing embryos from up to twenty five to thirty females and checking the quality of the frozen embryos. These embryos are frozen over three different days, with the goal being to successfully cryopreserve up to 300 8-cell embryos. This service covers three different freezing sessions, irrespective of the number of donor mice provided. If more than 300 embryos are cryopreserved, the core facility will test thaw a straw of your embryos and transfer them into a pseudopregnant foster mouse. Tissue samples from the live pups that are generated will be available for genotype confirmation. In addition, annual cryostorage fees will be charged to the investigator based upon the number of straws stored.
General Overview of the Process
- Investigator arranges with the Core to generate sufficient numbers of embryos for cryopreservation. Investigator superovulates and mates the donor female mice. Core provides the hormones for superovulation.
- Core harvests and cryopreserves embryos generated by the investigator.
- Core confirms the quality of cryopreservation by a test thaw and transfer of mouse embryos to psuedopregnant foster mouse.
- Investigator has option to confirm genotypes of resuscitated mice.
