Anticoagulation Clinic
The Anticoagulation Clinic at National Jewish Health follows patients who are taking anticoagulant medicines (blood thinners), which help prevent blood clots. If you are taking an anticoagulant, the amount of medicine in your blood should be monitored closely to assure you are getting enough medicine to prevent blood clots, yet not too much to cause bleeding. Regular visits to the Anticoagulation Clinic are important to monitor your blood levels closely. The Anticoagulation Team includes a doctor, nurse, pharmacist and lab members. Learn more.

Cardiac Sarcoidosis Program
In patients with sarcoidosis, it is estimated that at least 20 percent of patients have some element of cardiac involvement. Making use of our Institute for Advanced Biomedical Imaging, along with a full arsenal of diagnostic tools, the Cardiac Sarcoidosis Program excels in the evaluation and management of patients with known or suspected cardiac sarcoidosis. We also collaborate with the doctors in our Environmental and Occupational Science Division who are nationally recognized experts in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac sarcoidosis. We have a full arsenal of medications, biologics and immunosuppressants available.
Cardio-Oncology Program
Some cancer treatments can damage the heart (cardiotoxicity) and cardiovascular system, and lead to heart disease. The Cardio-Oncology Program at National Jewish Health seeks to limit potential damage to the heart from chemotherapy and radiation therapy while improving survival and quality of life for our patients. For patients with an increased risk of heart damage from cancer treatments, it’s important to have a cardio-oncologist evaluates cancer patients who are showing signs of heart disease and those at risk of developing heart conditions. The cardio-oncologist treats cardiotoxicity to prevent or limit harmful effects of cancer drugs on the heart.
National Jewish Health in Denver, Colorado, has one of the most robust cardio-oncology programs in the Rocky Mountain region. Our cardio-oncologists work with cancer patients and their doctors to prevent and treat heart conditions that are side effects of cancer treatment. Learn more.
Exertional Dyspnea Program
Shortness of breath is often the result of dysfunction of the heart, lungs, or both. Our exertional dyspnea program uses a multidisciplinary approach to successfully diagnose, treat and monitor this disease. A team of experts from multiple specialties and diagnostic tools from our Institute for Advanced Biomedical Imaging yield a precise diagnosis. Our specialty is in the diagnosis of diastolic dysfunction (abnormal heart relaxation), pulmonary hypertension, intracardiac shunt (at rest or exercise-induced), coronary disease and systolic heart failure.
Pulmonary Hypertension Center
Pulmonary hypertension results from a restricted flow of blood through the pulmonary arteries. Our cardiac experts can give your heart a thorough evaluation to assess heart function, valvular function, diastolic function, and other forms of cardiac dysfunction. Using a multidisciplinary approach from pulmonary, cardiac and rheumatology perspectives yields an accurate diagnosis and a treatment plan that gets results. National Jewish Health is one of the few recognized pulmonary hypertension treatment and evaluation centers in the region. We specialize in the evaluation and treatment of pulmonary hypertension cases of all complexities. Learn more about our Pulmonary Hypertension Center.
Advanced Heart Failure Program
National Jewish Health has one of the state’s only Advanced Heart Failure Programs. Our program is led by board-certified heart failure specialists who have deep knowledge of the latest therapies, treatments and clinical trials.
Coronary Artery Disease Program

Our coronary artery disease program excels in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of coronary disease using the latest technologies, medications, diagnostic tools and education. We also have experts on nutrition, plant-based and other diets and a full suite of preventive cardiology tools.
Valvular Disease Program
Disorders of the heart valves such as regurgitation and stenosis are very common problems affecting heart function. Using state-of-the-art echocardiogram and cardiac MRI, our heart valve experts can diagnose and treat virtually any valve disorder.
Heart Disease Prevention Program
Prevention is the cornerstone in cardiovascular medicine. Our prevention program will determine your cardiovascular risk and help you to prevent or reduce the likelihood of future cardiovascular problems, such as heart attack and stroke. Our prevention program includes patient education and counseling related to lifestyle changes such as nutrition, exercise and stress management.
Human Performance Program
As a casual athlete or all-star Olympian, performance is critical. Attaining a "personal best" is the goal of any athlete, whether you're just starting or professional. Our team of experts can help determine your exercise capacity, measure heart function with pinpoint accuracy and help to guide you to even better performance.
Women's Cardiology Program
Heart disease remains the #1 killer of women (Opens in a new window). This program can help prevent heart disease, identify a woman's risk of developing heart disease and provide early detection and treatment. Women can be seen by a female cardiologist or cardiology advanced practice provider if desired.
Walk with a Doc Program
Walk with a Doc is a community outreach effort to empower patients to improve health through physical activity. It targets patients in an effort to get them to exercise side-by-side with their health care providers. This program offers both relevant and understandable health information and a regular venue for physical activity. We seek to promote patient health and give patients the means to positively influence their health conditions on an ongoing basis. Learn more.
