Nearly $250,000 Raised at June 24 Golf Tournament Benefiting Asthma Programs at Nation’s Leading Res

The 17th annual Fund to Cure Asthma Golf Tournament at the Fenway Golf Club in White Plains on June 24 raised $242,000 to benefit asthma research and treatment at National Jewish Health, the leading respiratory hospital in the nation. The event’s 124 participants included Marjorie and Stephen Raphael, who started the fund in 1996 with Nancy and Jim Berry Hill.

During the event, two guests—Lee Feld and Jack Irushalmi—made significant gifts in honor of Wendy Siegel, co-chair of the National Jewish Health Council of National Trustees. The tournament sponsor was Marjorie and Stephen Raphael. Other sponsors included EmblemHealth, Fred Smith Plumbing and Culligan Water Conditional, Hercules Group, and dozens of other contributors.

Leadership included returning Co-Chairs Robert E. Helpern, Partner of Tannenbaum Helpern Syracuse & Hirschtritt LLP and a National Jewish Health Trustee, and Stephen Siegel, Global Brokerage Chairman of CB Richard Ellis Inc., and co-chair of the National Jewish Health Council of National Trustees. The Chairman Emeritus was once again Samuel Lewis, President of Goodstein Division/Cooper Square Realty Inc. and a National Jewish Health Trustee.

Since 1997, the New York golf tournament has raised more than $5 million for The Fund to Cure Asthma. The fund supports the work of physicians and scientists at National Jewish Health who seek to better understand, treat and eventually cure the more than 34 million Americans, including 9.6 million children, who suffer from asthma. In the past 20 years, the prevalence of asthma in America has increased 75 percent.
