National Jewish Health Named A Top Respiratory Hospital

17 Years on U.S. News & World Report List

For the 17th year, National Jewish Health has been named a top respiratory hospital by U.S. News & World Report in its 2013-14 ranking of leading hospitals in the nation. National Jewish Health has ranked as one of the top two hospitals in pulmonary care for the 17 years that the magazine has evaluated this category, including 15 years in the top spot. This year, National Jewish Health, along with its academic affiliate the University of Colorado Hospital, was ranked second. National Jewish Health and University of Colorado Hospital have been ranked together since 2011.

Rankings are one of several metrics, including research grants, influential publications, and patient satisfaction, that make National Jewish Health the leading respiratory hospital in the nation. In addition to offering unparalleled patient care, National Jewish Health faculty conduct groundbreaking research, and educate other physicians, scientists and health care professionals from around the world.

As part of its benefit to the community, National Jewish Health operates the Morgridge Academy, a free K-8 school on the main health campus and the only one of its kind in the country, serving about 90 chronically ill students who are challenged with difficult illnesses.

National Jewish Health is also ranked in the top 7 percent of institutions in the country funded by the National Institutes of Health, in terms of absolute dollars. And, the organization has consistently achieved the highest possible scores from patients in the Healthgrades survey in overall rating, doctor and nurse communications and other areas. The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) ranks National Jewish Health in the top 1 percent of hospitals in the nation.

The U.S. News rankings are distributed annually and are based on a combination of factors, including selection by pulmonologists across the nation, patient volume, safety and survival, as well as technology and patient services. In 2011, a change in the methodology used by U.S. News caused National Jewish Health to be listed with its academic partner.
