Klara and Larry Silverstein Honored by National Jewish Health at “A Winter’s Evening” Dinner Dance D

Manhattan Event Creates Fund at Nation’s Leading Respiratory Hospital for Research and Treatment of Pediatric Asthma and Allergies

New York City’s real estate and construction industry leaders will honor the charitable generosity and long-time dedication to National Jewish Health of Klara and Larry Silverstein, president and CEO of Silverstein Properties Inc., at the 44th annual “A Winter’s Evening” Dinner Dance on Dec. 14, 2013, in Manhattan. The black-tie gala will support National Jewish Health, the leading respiratory hospital in the nation. Lisa Silverstein and Roger Silverstein, two of the Silversteins’ children who are also executives at Silverstein Properties, will serve as co-chairs for the event and will present their parents with the National Jewish Health Humanitarian Award, the institution’s highest recognition for distinguished service.   

Donations raised at “A Winter’s Evening” will create The Klara and Larry Silverstein Fund for Pediatric Asthma and Allergy Research and Treatment at National Jewish Health. The cause is one that has affected the Silverstein family for decades. Larry, his son, Roger, and Roger’s son have all sought care from the world’s preeminent asthma experts at National Jewish Health. Mr. Silverstein is a founder of “A Winter’s Evening Dinner Dance,” which first took place in 1969. He serves as treasurer of the National Jewish Health Board of Directors, and he and Mrs. Silverstein have supported the institution for decades.

As the Executive Chair of “A Winters Evening” Dinner Dance for 19 years, Wendy Siegel will also be recognized for her exceptional contributions to National Jewish Health. Mrs. Siegel and her husband, Stephen Siegel, are co-chairs of the National Jewish Health Council of National Trustees. Attendees will support the establishment of The Wendy and Stephen Siegel Fund for Leukemia Research.

Larry A. Silverstein is president and CEO of Silverstein Properties Inc., which owns and manages some of the most successful and high-profile commercial and residential properties in New York City. The company holds a 99-year lease on the World Trade Center. The $20 billion rebuilding project includes the opening of the first tower at the site, 4 WTC, earlier in November.

A 1952 graduate of New York University, Mr. Silverstein served as vice chairman of the NYU Board of Trustees. He is a member of the New York Bar and a governor of the Real Estate Board of New York, having served as its chairman. He was also chairman of the Realty Foundation of New York and the Board of UJA-Federation of New York. Mr. Silverstein is a founding trustee of the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York.

Klara Silverstein earned a bachelor’s degree in social work and a master’s degree in special education from Hunter College. She has combined her interests in children and education with board leadership and advisory roles. For the past 11 years, she has been chair of the board of trustees at the Hunter College Foundation. She also is an advisory board member of the New York University Child Study Center, a board member of the Food Allergy Initiative and a board member of The Museum of Arts and Design.
