A Winter’s Evening Gala in Manhattan Raises $1.5 million for National Jewish Health

Wendy Siegel Presented with National Jewish Health Visionary Award

More than 700 guests attended the gala, which honored Robert J. Ivanhoe, National Jewish Health Humanitarian Award recipient. Ivanhoe is the global real estate practice chair of Greenberg Traurig LLP, a highly regarded firm and the recipient of the prestigious 2010 USA Award for Excellence in Real Estate from Chambers and Partners.

In addition, Wendy Siegel, executive chair of the event, was presented with the first National Jewish Health Visionary Award, recognizing her longtime dedication and inspired leadership to “A Winter’s Evening.” Siegel has been an active leader in raising funds and coordinating the event for the past 18 years. She also serves as co-chair of the Council of National Trustees for National Jewish Health alongside her husband, Stephen B. Siegel.

Last year’s honoree Marc Holliday, chief executive officer of SL Green Realty Corp., was inducted to the National Jewish Health Council of National Trustees at the event. The council is a group of more than 200 community and business leaders from across the country who work to raise awareness and support for the institution.

In addition to taking the helm for the event, many of the co-chairs are also active leaders of National Jewish health, serving as Trustees, members of the Board of Directors or in other roles.

Donations raised for “A Winter’s Evening” will support The Robert and Anne Ivanhoe Fund for the Research and Care of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Immune-Related Diseases at National Jewish Health. The fund supports the Autoimmune Lung Center at National Jewish Health, which  treats and researches rheumatoid arthritis, cancer and other immune-related diseases.

Many patients with autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and systemic sclerosis, also have related lung problems and need to be treated by both a rheumatologist and pulmonologist. For those patients, the Autoimmune Lung Center at National Jewish Health is the best center in the world to seek treatment. The Center provides patients with a unique, cross-specialty approach to care. It brings rheumatologists, pulmonologists and other related health care providers together to coordinate evaluation and management strategies.
