Weber Named President-Elect of the ACAAI
DENVER —
Richard Weber, MD, Professor of Medicine at National Jewish Health, has been named President-Electof the American College of Allergy, Asthma andImmunology (ACAAI). Dr. Weber will serveas President of ACAAI for one year beginning November 2012.
“This is a tremendous honor for me bothprofessionally and personally,” said Dr. Weber. “Being named President-Elect is the culmination of a career working in allergyand immunology treatment and research.”
The ACAAI is a professional association of 5,500allergists/immunologists and allied health professionals. Established in1942, the College is dedicated to improving the quality of patient care inallergy and immunology through research, advocacy and professional and publiceducation.
Dr. Weberpreviously served as Vice President, Secretary and sat on the Board of Regentsfor ACAAI. He has served on severalACAAI committees, including the Scientific Council and the Task Force onPractice Guidelines. The College recognized him with the ACAAI DistinguishedFellow Award in 2003; the Distinguished Service Award in 2008, and the BelaSchick lectureship in 2002.
Dr. Weber has aparticular interest in pollens associated with allergies. He has been chair ofthe ACAAI’s Aerobiology Committee all but four of the past 25 years and hasbeen program director of the Aeroallergen Identification Workshop since 1985. Hisphotos of allergen-producing plants and accompanying essays grace the covers ofthe journal Annals of Allergy, Asthma andImmunology, of which he is associate editor. His research has focusedpollen allergies and immunotherapy.
Dr. Weber is alsoa leading expert on desensitization of aspirin-allergic asthma patients.
