Humanitarian Award Luncheon Honored NuStar Energy Chairman Bill Greehey

Bill Greehey, Chairman of NuStar Energy LP, NuStar GP Holdings LLC, and Haven for Hope, received the National Jewish Health Humanitarian Award in front of 300 guests at a luncheon on May 19 at the Westin Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio. The event raised $140,000 to support National Jewish Health, ranked by US News & World Report as the #1 respiratory hospital in the nation since 1998.

Company; Honorary Chair Tom Frost, of Frost Bank; and last year's honoree, Edith McAllister. They were joined by San Antonio notables District Attorney Susan D. Reed, University of Texas President Ricardo Romo, and KENS5 anchor Deborah Knapp, who served as the luncheon's emcee.

Community sponsors included NuStar Energy LP, Bank of San Antonio, the Honorable Dolph Briscoe Jr., The Greehey Family Foundation, Valero Energy Foundation, AT&T, Ernst & Young LLP (Randy Cain), Edith McAllister, Tennessee Pipeline Construction Company and Linda and Ed Whitacre. Special guests included National Jewish Health Trustees Mertie and Dale A. Wood, MD.

Bill Greehey retired as Chairman of Valero Energy Corporation in January 2006 after growing the company from a small, regional natural gas pipeline company to the largest refining company in North America. He replicated the same culture of success at NuStar, which is ranked by Fortune magazine as one of the best companies in the nation to work for.

Greehey serves as a role model of philanthropy, having established the Greehey Family Foundation, which has given tens of millions of dollars in grants to charities since it was established in 2004. Greehey also leads Haven for Hope, which seeks to transform the lives of the homeless by addressing the root causes of homelessness through education, job training and behavioral health services. While most "shelters" feed, clothe and shelter the homeless, Haven for Hope and its Partners will provide critical social services to help the homeless become self-sufficient individuals on a long-term basis.
