Bacon Family Foundation supports chronically ill students at Kunsberg School

Unique school on the campus of National Jewish Health in Denver serves physical, emotional and educational needs of chronically ill children

National Jewish Health is proud to announce a gift from the Bacon Family Foundation in Grand Junction to be used to feed kindergarten through eighth-grade children at Kunsberg School for chronically ill students. The school, located on the campus of National Jewish Health in Denver, the nation's #1 respiratory hospital, serves the physical, emotional and educational needs of children whose illnesses have caused them to fall behind their peers in public school. A majority of those children come from families who are at or below the poverty level.

"The family is very pleased to be able to support such a fine program," said Linda Bacon-Reid. The Bacon Family Foundation provides funds to meet healthcare and hospital needs and to support children, youth and social services throughout Colorado. In addition to Kunsberg School at National Jewish Health, the Bacon Family Foundation supports Western Colorado Community Foundation, St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, Marillac Clinic, Homeward Bound of the Grand Valley, the Children's Hospital and dozens of other charities

Kunsberg School charges no tuition but relies on donations from community members who make a huge difference in the lives of these young people. Kunsberg teachers provide students with individual and structured education programs that assist students in achieving academic and physical excellence and prepare them to become independent, self reliant and responsible. From three nurses, the 82 students in the school learn specific medical self-care practices, enabling them to monitor and manage their illnesses and to go on to lead productive, meaningful and active lives.
