Amy O'Connell, is a speech-language pathologist at National Jewish Health. Ms. O'Connell is a Supervisor in Rehabilitation Services.



Special Interests


Amy O'Connell is a Speech-Language Pathologist with over 20 years of experience across a variety of settings. Her primary interests have been the assessment and treatment of dysphagia, voice, and cognitive-linguistic deficits in the neuro, neurodegenerative, frail elderly, and palliative/hospice populations, as well as the general medical population. Amy served as an adjunct professor at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley for 2 years, teaching graduate courses in Dysphagia and Neurogenic Communication Disorders.

Since arriving to National Jewish Health in 2016, she has developed her skills in the assessment and treatment of VCD/EILO and Chronic Cough. She has implemented the use of a standardized scale of penetration-aspiration measurement used during Video Fluoroscopic Swallow Studies, and continues to promote evidence-based treatment for dysphagia. She was promoted to Supervisor of Rehabilitation Services in 2017, and has been able to integrate speech team participation in an ILD research project as well as developing competencies for inpatient care.
